Dr. Lester Rowntree is a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley, where he conducts environmental studies and writes. This job transition comes after three decades of teaching Geography and Environmental Studies at California’s San Jose State University.

Dr. Les Rowntree’s interests as an environmental geographer include worldwide environmental challenges, biodiversity conservation, and human-caused global change.
He sees world regional geography as a way to engage and inform students by providing them with the conceptual tools they need to evaluate global challenges critically.
Dr. Rowntree has conducted studies in Iceland, Alaska, Mexico, Australia, Morocco, and Europe, in addition to his home state of California.
