Dr. Richard A. Dunlap is a research professor at Dalhousie University’s Department of Physics and Atmospheric Science. He graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a B.S. in Physics in 1974, Dartmouth College with an A.M. in Physics in 1976, and Clark University with a Ph.D. in Physics in 1978. Critical phenomena, amorphous materials, quasicrystals, hydrogen storage, magnetic materials, superconductivity, and materials for enhanced rechargeable batteries have all piqued his attention throughout the years.
Professor Dunlap has been a member of the Dalhousie University faculty since 1981. He was the Killam Research Professor of Physics from 2001 to 2006, and the Director of the Dalhousie University Institute for Research in Materials from 2009 to 2015.
